Fake Beads In the scriptures it is mentioned that wearing a Rudraksh which is cut, damaged or fake will cause harm to the wearer. There is no thumb rule for the Authenticity of Rudraksh. The different methods mentioned may be right but are not fool proof. There are different tests which are mentioned in different books. Let us learn more about them. 1) Real Rudraksh must sink in water. Now a days fake Rudraksh are made from synthetic, beetle nut, or by cutting and sticking the lower mukhi, cheaper and easily available Rudraksh to sell them as higher mukhi costly and rare Rudraksh. These Rudraksh easily sink in water and original beads if are dry and of light weight can float in water. So this test cannot be fool proof. 2) Real Rudraksh starts rotating in between 2 copper plates. Any round object if it carries some bio magnetic property will rotate between 2 copper plates and it has been observed that people who intend to sell fake beads demonstrate this kind of test to the buyer to impress him, so even this test is not fool proof. 3) Real Rudraksh drinks or boils milk. Real Rudraksh may consume milk and become bigger then its size but it won't sip milk as humans. And the milk starts boiling if Rudraksh is placed in it is just a story. There are many such tests but none seems to be fool proof. Only showing it to an expert or properly seeing it throw magnifying glasses or smelling it can prove the authenticity of rudraksh. If you think that an extra line is pulled on the Rudraksh or if you smell glue or a strong perfume on Rudraksh you may boil the Rudraksh in water or put it in liquid Nitrous Oxide for 2 to 3 hours and the artificially pulled lines will show up and if the Rudraksh is stuck it will open up.
